Best Time to Travel to Morocco

Morocco is a fantastic destination year-round. However, the best time to visit the Sahara Desert is during the spring season, which runs from March to May. This period is characterized by moderate and beautiful weather, with calm rains and comfortable temperatures, making it ideal for tourism and enjoying Morocco’s natural beauty. During this time, you can explore all the cities from the north to the south, with May being particularly perfect as it allows you the freedom to choose any region for your holiday. In contrast, summer can be very hot in the desert, so if you prefer warmer weather, consider visiting the Atlantic coast.

Souvenirs and Memories from Morocco

As you explore Morocco, you’ll be tempted by the variety of souvenirs available. Here are some recommendations:

Handcrafted Terracotta Pottery: Throughout Morocco, you’ll find shops selling beautiful pottery items. These include ashtrays, tagines, salad bowls, and salt shakers. The best pottery comes from the city of Safi, and smaller items are often more practical and affordable.

– Clothing and Footwear: Moroccan clothes are unique and stylish. Sellers often wear these garments, which include djellabas, trousers, and tunics in various cuts and fabrics, with or without embroidery. Each region has its own style, and gandouras are a great option for both men and women. Don’t forget to buy traditional Moroccan slippers, made entirely of leather, for comfortable wear at home.

Currency of Morocco

The official currency of Morocco is the Moroccan Dirham (MAD), which is also used in the Western Sahara region. One dirham is subdivided into 100 centimes. The Moroccan Central Bank is responsible for issuing and circulating currency in various denominations, both paper and metal. As of 2019, the exchange rate is approximately 9.6560 dirhams to one US dollar.

Lunches on Private Tours

Lunches are not included in all our tours. However, there are many cafes along the way to the Sahara Desert where you can stop for a meal. You are free to choose where you’d like to eat, or you can follow your driver’s recommendations if you prefer.

Popular Moroccan Dishes

Morocco is renowned for its diverse and flavorful cuisine. Here are some of the most popular dishes:

– Couscous: A staple on Moroccan tables, couscous comes in two main varieties: couscous with vegetables (often called “seven vegetables”) and couscous with raisins or meat, depending on the region. It is traditionally served on Fridays.

– Tangia: A specialty of Marrakech, tangia is made from veal, ghee, olive oil, saffron, and Moroccan spices. It is a must-try dish when visiting the city’s famous Jamaâ El Fna Square.

– Moroccan Tagine: This iconic dish, besides couscous, is a traditional Moroccan stew prepared in a tagine pot. It is common in Algeria and Tunisia as well, though it is believed to have Berber origins.
